Ignatieff Visit - A Summary

2009-11-30 |
We had Liberal Party Leader Michael Ignatieff on the Island on Saturday. He had a great visit and I believe both he and his wife Zsuzanna enjoyed themselves.

They arrived at the Charlottetown airport around noon and their first stop was at the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market for brunch. Michael had an opportunity to meet a lot of the merchants and other people who were shopping that day. Maybe it was the venue, but the vast majority of the people wanted to talk about the environment. They are very much following what is happening in the discussions leading to next week’s international climate change meetings in Copenhagen and are very disappointed in the lack of action (and you could say the action taken to try and scuttle any agreement being proposed) by Canada. People are truly disappointed and concerned.

After the Farmer’s Market visit, Michael had a social with many of the Young Liberals at the Merchantman Pub. There was a good crowd in attendance and there was a very lively discussion between the young people in attendance and the Leader.

Finally that evening, he was the guest speaker at the Annual PEI Liberal fundraising dinner. There were about 800 people there and it was a very enjoyable evening. Michael’s speech was probably the best I’ve seen him deliver. One of the best lines that he used was that in the past six months; he has been in Prince Edward Island more than Senator Mike Duffy.

He and Zsuzsanna left early on Sunday morning.
