Gail Shea Incident

2010-01-27 |
On Monday of this week, Fisheries Minister Gail Shea got “pied” at a public event in Burlington, Ontario.

The lady behind the assault was 38 year old Emily McCoy of New York City. Ms. McCoy is affiliated with the animal rights group PETA – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and that group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

This is not making a statement; not a protest; not a rally – this is assault which is a very serious criminal act in Canada.

Too often these people get the attention they want and get a slap on the wrist. Both McCoy and the group (who don’t forget admitted responsibility) should be charged with assault.

If convicted, and given the video tape, I see that as the only probably scenario Ms. McCoy should get a sentence of six months, PETA should be given a significant fine, and that should be the only message coming out of this incident.
