Weather in Ottawa

2010-03-11 |
The weather in Ottawa has been extremely mild all winter and during the past two weeks, it has become extremely so at 8° and sunny today and going to 10° and sunny tomorrow according to the weather media. This winter has been the mildest and driest since they started keeping records.

I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Good weather is nice and Eastern Canadians will certainly enjoy a break on their heating bills this winter. Cities will also enjoy a break on their snow removal budgets.

My suspicion is that these temperatures are an indication that climate change is happening faster than the experts are predicting. I do realize that the experts all say that it is unwise to put individual weather events into the climate change discussion e.g. Washington had a cold winter with increased levels of snow.

Regardless of what is causing the unusual weather events in Eastern Canada, climate change is, in my opinion, the most serious issue facing the world’s population.
